Over £100,000 worth of grants for environmental research at the University were made during last year from the University of Leeds environmental trust.
The trust gathers funds from landfill companies, against their payment of landfill tax, and the money is then put to use researching areas of environmental concern. Income to the trust grew to £124,238 in 1998/9 from £7,500 the year before.
