The Yorkshire and Humberside Universities Association (YHUA) has received over £2m to help widen access to higher education. The award to the University-based YHUA accounts for almost a quarter of the total cash allocated by HEFCE to widening participation projects nationwide. The YHUA is located in University House.
The funding is for three years and will be used to build on a regional framework for widening participation established this year. YHUA has already identified communities and areas in which few people have access to higher education.
It now aims to tackle this through a range of projects including improved links with schools, rural areas and the voluntary sector.
