Earth turns for Innovation Centre partners

Innovators: (l-r) Professor Alan Wilson and Mark Shepherd on site

Construction of the University's new Innovation Centre is under way following an earth-turning ceremony performed by Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan Wilson and Shepherd Developments managing director Mark Shepherd.

The £3.2m centre will house up to thirty fledgling businesses in purpose-built facilities on the new Western Campus and is being established as a joint venture between the University and Shepherd Developments. It also marks the first stage in the creation of a ‘knowledge park’ on the site. "The University of Leeds has a tremendous record of developing spin- off companies," said Professor Wilson. "The new Innovation Centre will allow us to accelerate the exploitation of our substantial research capacity."

The centre is scheduled for completion in spring next year.
