See-through steel

Pioneering technology developed by University researchers allowing engineers to ‘see’ processes taking place inside steel vessels was demonstrated at the recent Royal Society summer exhibition. Professor Brian Hoyle and Professor Richard Williams were part of the team invited to present the technology at the society's prestigious ‘New Frontiers in Science’ exhibition. The two-day event was attended by the public and VIPs including MPs, business leaders and Society fellows.

The ‘process tomography’ imaging techniques are based upon electrical and ultrasound sensors and can help improve the productivity, quality and efficiency of industrial processes.
