The University has received a grant from the Joint Infrastructure Fund for a new biosciences research laboratory. The award is expected to be around £2.3m and will fund buildings and laboratory equipment.
As well as providing a base for advances in plant biotechnology, including applications of direct relevance to crop protection in developing countries, the research will offer important assistance to those making decisions about the safety of GM foods.
The University bid to the £150m fund was led by the Centre for Plant Sciences' Professor Howard Atkinson. Leeds is one of twenty universities awarded money from the fund.
