David Barton has been appointed to a Chair of Solid Mechanics in the School of Mechanical Engineering with effect from April 1. Professor Barton was previously a senior lecturer within the school.
His research interests are in the experimental characterisation and computational modelling of complex material and structural phenomena. Recent applications include vehicle crash-worthiness, automotive braking system performance and the wear of artificial hip and knee joints.
John Oakland has been appointed to a part-time chair in Business Excellence and Quality Management at Leeds University Business School with effect from March 1. Previously, Professor Oakland had spent almost twenty years at the University of Bradford Management Centre.
His research interests centre around strategic quality management, statistical process control and the recent conceptual frameworks known as 'Business Excellence'. His research is applied and involves fieldwork in large complex organisations, both in the commercial and public sectors.
Gareth Morgan has been appointed to a Chair of Haematology in the Division of Clinical Sciences within the School of Medicine, Dentistry, Psychology and Health with effect from April 1.
Professor Morgan was previously a senior lecturer in pathological sciences at the University. His major research interests include the pathology of leukaemia and he aims to establish a wider research group.
- The title of the chair recently awarded to Dr Eberhard Buhl, jointly with the School of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Biomedical Sciences, has been changed to Chair of Neurobiology.
