A detailed appraisal of an institutional merger between the University and Bretton Hall College is to take place, Senate decided last week.
Although several issues of concern have been raised by departments involved in preliminary discussions, it was agreed that the best way forward was a full investigation into the academic and financial case for a merger.
The decision follows a recommendation by The Academic Development Committee, which considered preliminary reports by two working groups. Further papers will be brought back to Senate on key issues in the coming months.
It is anticipated that a decision will be made by July 31 next year.
The University association with Bretton Hall dates back to the College's foundation 50 years ago. Bretton, which has 300 staff and 3000 students, is home to the West Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
