Summer of change brings new roles and responsibilities

Robert Sladdin has been appointed Director of Estates as from August 1. Currently Director of Estates Development, Robert will oversee the four divisions currently comprising Estate Services and will chair a new Estates Board. He will also be responsible for providing strategic guidance to the University Estates, establishing better links with the University’s Central Administration and building upon recent improvements in the division.

The new position of Director of Strategic Development (Library) will be taken up by Jan Wilkinson in August. She will provide additional senior level leadership for the Library’s development as Lynne Brindley, currently University Librarian and Dean of Information Strategy, takes up the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Communications and Information Technology in August. Lynne will also have responsibility for administrative IT. Jan, who was selected through a Senate appointing committee, is currently Deputy Librarian at LSE’s British Library of Political and Economic Science, where she previously worked as deputy to Lynne Brindley.

Professor David Sugden, Chair of the School of Education, becomes Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Staff in August. His areas of responsibility will include links with other HE and FE institutions.

Professor Chris Taylor, presently Pro-Vice-Chancellor for IT and Facilities, is to become Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Learning for the period to July 2000. Professor Tony May will continue his role as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research.
