Leeds has kept its place as one of the countrys top three most popular universities, and tops the popularity poll with home and EU students, with 36,552 applications as of the beginning of February.
The overall figure, including international students, is 39,111, and the University has increased its market share on last year.
The fall in applications to the University by 2.6 per cent on last year is slightly less than the national average, which is expected to be around 4 per cent.
