Sound of success

A Leeds music tutor’s composition was chosen from 350 submissions to win the first prize of $10,000 in the First International Composers’ Competition held in Budapest this year. Patrick Standford, formerly head of music at Bretton Hall and now a tutor in the School of Continuing Education and critic for the Yorkshire Post, submitted a masque for chorus and orchestra entitled The Prayer of Saint Francis which will be performed at a gala concert on 16 December at the Liszt Academy in Budapest.
