Students talk shop with Tesco

Leeds students have taken part in the country’s first career focused on-line internet question and answer session with Tesco. The company, which receives thousands of applications each year for its graduate training scheme, is the first recruiter to use interactive internet technology to communicate directly with students. 12 of the UK’s leading universities took part in the GradChat initiative.

Tesco chief executive Terry Leahy who took part in the discussion said “We want to attract the best – it made sense to extend our use of the internet to undergraduate recruitment.” Caroline Ramage of the Careers Service said “The students found it very useful and it’s really their only chance to talk to people at this level in the company.”
