Professor Gerald Wistow has been appointed Director of the University's Nuffield Institute for Health, where he succeeds Professor David Hunter.
The Nuffield Institute plays a leading role in health research in Leeds, and Professor Wistow says he intends to "see the Institute develop in its unique position as a bridge between research and practice."
Professor Wistow joined the Institute in 1989 and three years later became Professor of Health and Social Care. The following year he established a Community Care Division.
In addition, he has just been reappointed as an adviser to the House of Commons Health Committee, a post he has held since January 1991.
