Dr Oliver Pickering became the second member of the University to meet the Prince of Wales in recent weeks during a royal visit to Ripon at the beginning of June. The Prince of Wales was shown some of the Cathedral's medieval manuscripts now on long-term deposit in the Brotherton's special collections department. The whole of Ripon Cathedral's ancient library is kept at the University and Dr Oliver Pickering was invited by the Dean of Ripon to show the Prince some of its treasures. The books chosen for the occasion were a 13th-century Latin Bible decorated with numerous illuminated initial capitals, and the Ripon Psalter of 1418 which was almost certainly used as a service book in the medieval minster.
