A former White House adviser to Jimmy Carter addressed over one hundred staff and students at University House on June 3. Professor Amitai Etzioni of George Washington University is a leading exponent of communitarian philosophy and social policy and stresses the importance of social responsibilities and community. He has been President of the American Sociological Association and his work has influenced Bill Clinton's thinking and the agenda of New Labour. His talk, Community and Morality in a Democratic Society, was co-hosted by the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies, the Law Department and the School of Sociology and Social Policy.
