The Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals (CVCP) welcomed the top priority given by the Government in the Queen's Speech to educating young people and their acknowledgement of the integral role of higher education in this process. CVCP also backed the Government's intention to respond positively to the Dearing Inquiry into the future of higher education and urged theGovernment to be bold in their proposed new arrangements for student loans.
Diana Warwick, Chief Executive of CVCP, said: "CVCP is delighted that the Government is to tackle positively the issues facing higher education. Their determination to address the key problem the need for a fair funding system is particularly welcome. We urge them to be bold and act quickly to ensure an adequately resourced system to benefit students, universities and the nation."
