Departments are invited to identify up to three priority equipment requirements for the Joint Research Equipment Initiative. There are two competitions this year; for projects under £200,000 there is a fund of £5m administered by the Research Councils and for projects over £200,000 a fund of at least £16m, administered by the funding councils. Bids can be for no more than 50% of the total cost, and no less than 20% must be from external sources. For details contact Walter Lewis in the Research Support Unit ext 4091.
CVCP Chief Executive has welcomed Labour's plan to introduce a National Endowment Fund for Science, Technology and the Arts and proposals to use lottery funds to tackle the research equipment crisis.
