Following a meeting of the UCEA Board at which the translation of clinical academic salaries was discussed, CASSC has now agreed to 'translate' the DDRB award into the salaries of clinical academics. The increase from 1 April 1997 is by 2.35% for all positions, with a further 1.4% for all grades from 1 December 1997. The new scales are effective from 1 April 1996.
For staff on scale points, assimilation should be to corresponding points on the new scales. Professors not on scale e pints and with salaries below the maximum (£55,705 at 1 April 1997 and £56,470 at 1 December 1997) should receive a percentage increase equal to that payable at the nearest point on the 5-point NHS consultants' scale. For lecturers, senior lecturers and readers whose salaries lie between scale points, the increases should be calculated so that the April 1997 and December 1997 salary relationships with the scale points immediately above and below are maintained.
Lecturers holding honorary contracts at other than consultant level who took up the option to remain on local salary scales in accordance with paragraph 5 of the UGC letter to vice-chancellors of 28 March 1980 should receive increases calculated so that the April 1997 and December 1997 salary relationships with the maximum point of the registrars' scale are maintained ( an increase of 2.35% from 1 April 1997 and a further increase of 1.4% from 1 December 1997).
Assimilation arrangements for part-time staff should be pro-rata to those for full-time staff.
