Professor Sir David Weatherall FRS, Regius Professor of Medicine at the University of Oxford and an honorary Leeds graduate, gave the 1997 Edward Boyle Memorial Lecture on Tuesday 11 March. His subject was "Medical research in the next Millennium: the case for a partnership between the richer countries and the developing world." He spoke of the major change in the distribution and variety of diseases among different countries during the 20th century, and the reasons why affluent countries should take a more international view of medical research and practice.
