Short, Straw set for election

A total of 32 Leeds alumni, including Shadow Cabinet members Jack Straw and Clare Short, will be standing for election or re-election when the country goes to the polls - nine of them in Yorkshire seats.

Two alumni currently studying or working at the University are standing as candidates - both for the Liberal Democrats. Dr Bill Winlow, reader in the Department of Pharmacology, is representing the party in Leeds North East, and David Freeman, studying for a BA in Political Studies, is standing in Leeds Central.
