A University team has won a £95,000 contract from the Higher Education Funding Council for England to evaluate the international standing of research in England. This will be an analysis of research in English higher education institutions, using the data submitted for the Research Assessment Exercise - covering all subjects and providing comparison with other countries including the USA, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Australia.
HEFCE will use the study as a basis for consultation in the autumn with the higher education sector on research funding priorities. The Leeds team is led by Dr Jonathan Adams, recently appointed Dean for Strategic Development, and includes Professor Peter Scott of the Centre for Policy Studies in Education, and Tim Bailey and Louise Jackson of the Departmental Support Unit.
