The first sector-wide set of guidelines on research degrees has been published by the Higher Education Quality Council, following extensive consultation with a variety of groups. Academic staff were consulted along with agencies and commercial and industrial organisations with an interest in sponsoring research activity and employing research students.
Dr Roger Brown, Chief Executive of HEQC, said : "We hope that the Research Degree Guidelines will also be of assistance to the new national quality assurance agency as it develops a methodology for bringing research degree and diplomas within the new single quality assurance process."
